The GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test)

The Graduate Management Admissions Test® is, like all assessment tests, designed to test skills, not knowledge. The skills tested are similar to skills tested in other aptitude or assessment tests: verbal skills, mathematical and analytical writing skills that you have developed through education and other work. The GMAT does not test or measure:

  • Knowledge of business
  • Job skills
  • Content you have learned in university or college
  • Subjective qualities or "soft skills" like motivation, creativity, leadership or other interpersonal skills

About your GMAT scores
You can learn about the structure of the GMAT in our page on GMAT sections and scoring. The following is more general information.

Your GMAT scores are kept for 20 years. Schools are not likely to accept GMAT scores that are any older than five years.

You can check your score immediately after taking the test. The scores for Verbal and Qualitative sections will be given a provisional and unofficial score, though this may not be the same as the official score you receive. In some cases, your checked score may register as "delayed," if there are extenuating circumstances that interrupt the reporting.

You can choose to not report your score. This will register as "+++" indicating that the test taker has chosen to consider her or his score. There are other reasons that the score may register as a "+++". These include mistimings or the fact that you did not respond to the questions.
