Canadians to the US
- To work as a nurse in the US, you must possess:
- Current Nursing License in your country of citizenship
- Passport
- Visa authorization
- CGFNS VisaScreen Certificate (Overseas Nurses only)
- Contract of employment provided by Access Nurses
All nurses working in the US must possess a valid United States Nursing License. Every state has a state Board of Nursing that is able to issue a United States Nursing License. You can contact the Canadian (or any other country’s) board of nursing and they will work with the specific state Board of Nursing to administer this process.
On the other hand, there are some states that recognize Canadian licensure. You can contact provincial, national and state agencies for more information.
In addition, you will have to pass the National Council License Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) before you immigrate to the US. This is separate from nursing licenses.
