Information technology is the fastest growing field in the developed world, and obtaining a degree in IT, whether at a campus university or online is one of the surest bets for long, prosperous employment.
Acquiring an IT degree online
Most professionals in the information technology industry have at least one degree, in mathematics, computer science or an engineering discipline. Most degrees are three years, focusing on one field, with at least 60 per cent of your coursework coming in your major area of study, combined with science, math and engineering studies. Most of this study is theoretical and abstract.
Those who engage in a computer science degree have a love for analytical thinking. You must also be willing to engage lifelong learning in a field where cutting edge knowledge can become obsolete in a matter of months.
Obtaining an IT degree online is a natural fit: you can learn at your own pace (advancing more quickly, if you so desire), and you can learn about technology as you use it. Most IT degrees involve a healthy does of theoretical knowledge with less need for discussion and labs than other disciplines. Many professionals in information technology learn online, to keep abreast of new developments and to learn while they work.
IT or information technology is a broad category of degree programs and other coursework that would include computer science as well as computer programming.
